for all the graduates of 2013. I told you about Chad in my last post, so I thought I'd take a minute to share the card that I made for him. Actually, it is the second card. I wasn't crazy about the first one. I saw this layout on a card that Shari Carroll did over at the Hero Arts Blogand I LOVED it. It is so simple, but has so much interest with the lifted panels. Be sure to click the link and take a look at Shari's. She has more texture by using dry embossing and it has more of a feminine feel. Plus th...

A Day Of Celebration.....

and sweet memories. My great nephew, Chad, graduated from high school, so yesterday was the party to celebrate the occasion. First though, I would like to tell you about this young man. When Chad was born he weighed just over 3 pounds. I remember the first time that I visited him at the hospital, it was like holding a blanket of air with tubes coming from various parts of his tiny body. As I sat in the rocking chair holding this tiny bundle of sweetness, I quietly prayed. I prayed for God to protect ...

the miles was a fun little card to make and ever so easy. Let me give you a little tour of it. This card came together by hunting. That means that while "hunting" for items for another card, I found some goodies that had not seen any crafty love for a while. The only thing that I didn't hunt for was the stamp set. It is Ruby Rose, the newest set from Papertrey that was designed by my sweet friend, Dawn McVey. Not only did she design the stamps, but she also designed a die collection to go along with it. ...

I'm a day late and a dollar short. As you know Papertrey holds their monthly blog hop on the 25th of each month. For May's hop, Nichole gave us several color combinations and you were to choose one along with a favorite floral set, then create something pretty. Being the sweet person that Nichole is, she generally gives us the challenge on the 16th, so therefore we have plenty of time to create. Isn't that thoughtful? I know! So why is it that I didn't get a card made in time for the hop? I wish I could ...

Memorial Day, the day we celebrate all of those that have served and continue to serve our country. I watched a news report about the Tomb of The Unknown Soldier and was amazed at the training these soldiers go through to have the honor of being a guard of the tomb. (If you click the link you can read about the process of their training and also the process of the changing of the guard.) I was left with a sadness for all of those young soldiers that left their home and families to serve and protec...

paper to work. Yep, you read that correctly. I guess I could say that no stamps were harmed in the making of this card. I used only two stamps.....the letter "H" and the letter "I". Now maybe you could shed some light on this for me. Why is it that while I am sitting on my couch I think of ideas for cards, but let me get in my craft room and those thoughts are totally out the window. And before you suggest that I keep an idea journal, I do...........some times. But when the journal isn't "with" me, I ass...

This little card was very simple to make. I started with the Mini Blooms stamp set, stamping it along the side of the small panel using new leaf ink. Next up I used the coordinating dies to layer in some spring blooms. I used my cuttlebug swiss dot folder along the top portion of the white card stock as a back drop for my focal image, which I layered on to a piece of harvest gold card stock. I added gems and enamel dots along with harvest gold satin ribbon as my embellishments. I stamped the sent...

pretty sympathy cards when Doug passed, but this one really caught my "creative" eye when I opened it. I immediately wanted to create my own version. I loved the soft colors with the bold embossed print at the top and the soft print at the bottom. For my creation I used the Cutting Garden set and I just had to pull out one of the Zing embossing powders recently released by Papertrey. Here's a close up of that gorgeous floral pattern on the card that I received. ...and here is a close up of my e...

trip to California. As you know, Whitney took me on a fun trip to California and I finally have the pictures edited. So I thought that instead of showing you all 4,247 photos (yes, I am once again exaggerating) in one post, I will periodically do a little post of various adventures that we had while we were there. And with that in mind, we'll start with our first day. Our flight left CVG at 9:00 am and we landed at LAX around 11:00 am. Gotta love that three hour time difference. HA! We collected our l...

from me to you. I am a very lucky girl to have such great co-workers and a great boss. I was able to spend the majority of Doug's last days with him at the hospital, with just allowing myself time to run home and take care of my girls before heading back to the hospital. Those days were very precious to me and I'll never be able to thank them enough for covering my duties that week. Shortly after the funeral, Whitney and I flew to California for a few days, so again they covered me at the office. So whil...

back from our trip to Los Angeles. It was a wonderful trip, but I am still on "vacation mode". In other words, a bit lazy. After the past several weeks, I haven't felt very creative, but plan on getting in my craft room for a bit today, along with doing laundry and weeding a small flower bed. Hopefully I'll have something crafty to share soon. I also need to get busy with editing vacation photos, so I'll have a bit of that fun to share as well. So be patient with me and I'll have something new for you so...

We'll be flying to LA and spending a few days basking in the sunshine and riding the waves. Okay, I made that second part up. The main reason for the trip is to "hopefully" get to see Ellen. Whitney knows how much I love watching Ellen. We applied for tickets back in February for the April 16th show. We didn't receive a respons...

goodbye. Doug left us Friday, just a little past noon. Joyce and I were with him when he took that last breath. He had a very rough Thursday and Friday morning, but finally went to sleep and then ever so peacefully, left us. I sat with both of my parents and my husband as they each took their last breaths, but some how it's different when it is your sibling. Maybe it is the realization that your family is fading away.....I don't know. Mom dad had three children, 9 years between each of us. I am the "...

Qui-et - adj: making little or no noise. Noun: absence of noise; silent; calm. Verb: become silent; calm. It's 1:50 am and I find myself surrounded by "quiet" as I sit next to my oldest brother, Doug's hospital bed as he nears his final days with us. The only sounds are the soft voices of nurse Jessica and nurse aide Cindy as they come and go, quietly, checking his vitals and trying to keep him comfortable. At the moment he is resting, only occasionally asking me for water, which is nothing more than a...

resist making a quick card for this month's blog hop challenge over at Papertrey. Quick being the operative word. If you do papercrafting, be it cards or scrapbooking, you know that a big trend is using sequins. I made a little trip to my local craft store recently and while there I picked up a variety pack of the little beauties. So it was fun to see that Nichole pickedsequins to feature for the March blog hop. Do you remember what the "operative" word is? Yep, quick.....and here's the proof. ...

During Papertrey's anniversary celebration in February, Nichole gave us a few sketches that we could print out for one of the fun little challenges. I didn't get to play along, but I printed them to use later. I based this card loosely on sketch #2 that you can see in this photo. My oldest brother has been in the hospital for more than a week in pretty serious condition, so I've been going to the hospital most every evening after work. Needless to say, there hasn't been much creativity going on here, but I did find this photo that I haven't yet shared with you. Greg isn't a smart man....not that I ever would say that because I certainly wouldn't EVER say that.....just sayin'. The reason I bring this up is that not only is February 18th their wedding anniversary, it is also his birthday. I'm pretty sure that he won't forget that anniversary. hehe In honor of his birthday, this is the card that I sent him. It is always a bit of a challenge to make a masculine card, so for Greg's card I chose to let the color and paper do the work. So let's get started with a fe...

When I sat down to make a card for them, it was only natural that I reached for the Love Birds set from Papertrey. For my color scheme, I went with a classic color combo - kraft, red and cream. Since it this card was to celebrate their anniversary, I tried to find an even balance - not too masculine, not too feminine. The color scheme and the harliquin background pattern played to the masculine side. The s...
